Speak-Up Culture

Great leaders don’t listen up, they listen down. We know the impacts of poor leadership: lackluster performance, missed opportunities, deleterious cultures, and even disaster. Yet, these issues are all too common. But leaders also have an immense opportunity. They can create a speak-up culture, one in which everyone feels they matter and thus steps up to share concerns, insights, ideas, and even dissent—all for the betterment of the organization. Speak-Up Culture is for leaders at all levels— from senior executives who believe in humble leadership, to mid-level supervisors who haven’t had formal leadership training but want to ensure that the people they’re accountable to have a voice; to aspiring leaders who want to uncover their strengths and better provide support to those in their span of care. All these leaders share a common need to know a better way to behave as a leader.
