John Chrysostom is regarded as a saint both in the Catholic Western church and in the East where he is one of the Three Holy Hierarchs (along with Basil the Great and Gregory of Nazianzus). He would later go on to become the archbishop of Constantinople. However, when his sermons were ill-received by the empress he was marched to his untimely death.
