Nathaniel is injured, so his father brings home a boy named John Worth from the Orphan Train to help on the farm. While Nathaniel feels jealous of Worth, who has taken his place and garnered his father's attention, Worth mourns his family and his dream of an education. \nBefore the accident Nathaniel's life seemed pretty good. His help around the farm made his father proud. But now, with a busted leg, Nathaniel can't do farmwork anymore, so his father adopts another son through the Orphan Train.
